Which Came First, the Pedometer or the 10,000 Steps Program

May 31st, 2008 by admin

Like sushi, Sumo, and Hello Kitty, the idea of walking 10,000 steps per day is “made in Japan.” It originated with Japanese researchers, most notably a Dr. Yoshiro Hatano, who wanted to determine the calorie burn resulting from brisk walking. He then wanted to take that research and try to stem the rising tide of obesity in his country.

Dr. Hatano’s research determined the average person took 3,500 to 5,000 steps per day, and that increasing that count to 10,000 steps per day would result in better health and lower weight. Combine sophisticated research with the penchant for Japanese technology, and the pedometer is born.

Pedometer use quickly swept Japan, with millions of citizens strapping on a “Manpo-kei” (10,000 steps meter). The trend also caught on in the USA, where we have our own problems with obesity in adults and-alarmingly-in children as well.

However, Dr. Hatano is not the original inventor of the pedometer. Based on Leonardo da Vinci’s drawings, it is generally believed he created the earliest versions of a device to count steps.

Thomas Jefferson was also involved, hundreds of years after da Vinci, as he brought a step counter back from his sojourns in France. Jefferson was a staunch advocate of regular walking for mental and physical health.

Jefferson penned a well-known epistle to his nephew, Peter Carr, where he advised him on what he needed to do to become a productive member of society. There were a number of subjects Jefferson wanted him to study, but he also wanted him to walk regularly. He said:

The object of walking is to relax the mind. You should therefore not permit yourself even to think while you walk; but divert your attention by the objects surrounding you. Walking is the best possible exercise. Habituate yourself to walk very far.

He also said Carr should carry a gun with him, but no books. I’m thinking that practice would be frowned upon today, however.

The great thing about walking is that anyone can do it, and you can do it anyplace at just about any time. There are exceptions of course to the above statement, but it is the absolute simplest form of exercise.

You don’t need any special clothing (although comfortable shoes are nice) or special equipment (although a pedometer is recommended). You can do it alone or with a group. You can do it with your family, your friends, or your pets.

Do you need a formal “program”? Not necessarily, but it can help. Some programs will walk you through establishing a baseline, setting goals, and working to meet those goals. A good program can help you stay on track until you meet your health and fitness goals.

So it’s not important whether the pedometer or the 10,000 steps program came first. The important thing is to get out and move!

Anabolic Steroids and Will They Work for Me

May 31st, 2008 by admin

Unfortunately nobody can tell that question over the internet, but here are some tips to consider!

Firstly anabolic steroids are a class of natural and synthetic steroid hormones that promote cell growth and division, resulting in growth of muscle tissue and sometimes bone size and strength. Anabolic steroids are the synthetic derivates of male anabolic hormone testerone. Some anabolic steroids are Deca Durabolin, Sustanon, Winstrol Depot, Winstrol, Andriol, Anavar and other.

The base substance of Deca Durabolin is Nandrolone Decanoate. Nandrolone Decanoate is a male sex hormone given to treat a lack of testosterone, bone breakdown, female breast cancer, stimulation of growth, weight gain, and the making of red cells. Nandrolone Decanoate works as it is easy on the liver and promotes good size and strength gains while reducing body fat. This drug is unique in that 5a -reductase, the enzyme which converts testosterone to the more-potent DHT, actually converts Nandrolone to a less-potent compound. Therefore, this is somewhat deactivated in the skin, scalp, and prostate, and these tissues experience an effectively-lower androgen level than the rest of the body.

But there are some also some drawbacks or side effects Nandrolone Decanoate (Deca Durabolin) also has some side effects which are Water retention (edema), Gynecomastia, Numbness, Inhibited natural testosterone production, Elevated blood pressure , Elevated blood lipid profiles, Accelerated hair loss , Aggression, moodiness and Acne. I must remind you that Deca Durabolin has long half-life so it isn’t very suitable for short alternating cycles, but it is better for more traditional cycles, with a built-in self-tapering effect in the weeks following the last injection. Yes Deca Durabolin is taken with administration by deep intermuscular Injection.

Sustanon 250 is an oil-based injectable containing four different testosterone compounds: testosterone propionate, 30 mg; testosterone phenylpropionate, 60 mg; testosterone isocaproate, 60mg; and testosterone decanoate, 100 mg. It features both fast-acting and slow-acting esters, and can be injected anywhere from once every week to once every four weeks. Sustanon is used to be taken with Nolvadex or Proviron to counter and prevent estrogen-linked side effects. Testosterone Propionate: Chemical Formula C3H6O2, Testosterone propionate is a fast-acting ester with a release time of 3-4 days. To keep blood levels from fluctuating greatly, propionate is usually injected between one to three times a week. Testosterone Phenylpropionate: Chemical Formula C9H10O2, Testosterone phenylpropionate is a slow-acting ester, with a release time of 1-3 weeks. A popular name brand for T-phenylpropionate is “Testolent.” Testosterone Isocaproate: Chemical formula C6H12O2, Testosterone Isocaproate is a ester with a release time of 1 week.Testosterone Decanoate: Chemical Formula C10H20O2, Testosterone Decanoate is a ester with a release time for about a month, but recent discoveries show that levels drop siginficantly drop in a few weeks.

Andriol is a brand name for Testosterone Undecanoate Testosterone undecanoate is not a c-17 alpha alkylated hormone. Therefore, it is considered a safer oral form of testosterone. Additionally, it is absorbed through the small intestine into the lymphatic system, posing less burden on the liver. Undecanoate: Chemical Structure C11H22O2.
Undecanoate is not a commonly found ester, and appears in oral testosterone undecanoate (Andriol). It is an ester with a release time of 2-3 weeks.

More on this subject will be discussed next week!

Eddy “ED” Johnson is a long time bodybuilder and user of anabolic steroids, now he is emplojed by http://www.eurobolic.com as a consultant

Treadmill Choosing Tips

May 31st, 2008 by admin

When choosing a treadmill model you should first look for two things: manufacturer and warranty. If the manufacturer is an established treadmill sports distributor, then you can be half-sure of its quality. If the warranty is also high, you can be fully certain of the treadmill’s quality. If the warranty of the treadmill is high, it’s like a confidence vote given to the machine by its manufacturer. Think about it, long warranty means a low breakdown rate.

According to your personal needs, you should get information on various models and cut them from the list as you find less compatibility with your goals. Your final choice should be an exercise treadmill that is the closest to your expectations and that allows you to accomplish at least 90% of your initial set goals. Of course, the price of the treadmill might also come into play as a decisive argument. Always make sure to select a treadmill based on hard facts and relevant information, not on an emotional response.

Even if you select the best treadmill for your needs, you still need to take other things into consideration: where are you going to use it? Home fitness equipment takes space and you may need to move things around the house to make this possible. Make sure that you are not going to exercise in a crammed spot, as your performance and efficiency will be drastically reduced. Try to find a good spot for all your fitness equipment - basements are usually the number one choice with homeowners. A few dumbbells and an abs machine will not take a lot of room and still provide you with a good workout. A large treadmill, however, might give you some problems, so make sure to prepare a suitable location for it.

Another important fact that needs to be taken into consideration when choosing a treadmill is that it maintains healthy exercising conditions. One of the most important factors is the thickness and mobility of the walking deck, which needs to be of at least 3 or 4 inches thick in order to avoid causing you any pains or health problems. The walking track is also extremely important as it will have to withstand a lot of direct pressure from the person who exercises, so it needs to perform at top speed while maintaining comfort levels high. The walking track should be approximately 17 inches wide in order to provide the necessary leg room for you to exercise correctly and it should also have a length of somewhere around 50 inches to provide your body with a comfortable position.
